MHP Requests Support for Families Impacted by Wayne Manchester Flood in Long Branch
Silver Spring, MD (July 31, 2025) – An unmarked utility line encountered during Purple Line construction work led to a water main break that flooded two floors of the Wayne Manchester Towers Apartments in the Long Branch neighborhood on Friday evening, July 25, 2025. The emergency impacted 20 families and displaced 50 individuals. Additionally, four units have been condemned and three others will require extensive repairs. Several of the impacted families lost belongings, thus needing to find a new home.
At the request of the Montgomery County Government and with support from the Purple Line team, MHP is mobilizing funds to support the families impacted.
While the affected building is not an MHP property, we are actively engaged in efforts to preserve the character and strengths of Long Branch to respond to the short- and long-term impacts of the Purple Line light rail, a new transit line that is scheduled to open in late 2027.
