Housing People
Unity Place Progress and Campaign
This winter, we will complete renovations at the Unity Place apartment community in S.E. Washington, DC, providing high-quality, affordable homes to nearly 400 families. Plus, we’re building a new community center on the property – designed in consultation with community members! It’s all part of our plan to double the number of homes we provide by 2030. Right now, we’re gearing up to hire additional community outreach staff, teachers, and program managers to support residents at Unity Place. To scale our after-school education programs and other services, we need to raise $120,000 in the next few months. With a generous gift of $100, $250, $500, or more, you can help take this project to the finish line. Consider making a contribution today. Learn more here.
Empowering Families
Golfing for a Great Cause
The Norman Christeller Golf Classic is a fundraiser that raises money for our Community Life educational enrichment programs. This year’s event was a hole in one! Thanks to the support of our amazing donors and partners, we raised more than $73K for our Community Life programs. FLOW students enjoyed the youth clinic and Alison served as a student speaker. Here is a list of this year’s winners and some photo highlights.

Strengthening Neighborhoods
Mobile Med Partnership
Health is a major concern for everyone, especially seniors. Preventive medicine is crucial because it proactively addresses health risks early on, often leading to better outcomes and a higher quality of life. MHP is glad to partner with Mobile Medical Care, Inc. (Mobile Med), a Federally Qualified Health Center that offers comprehensive primary care, proactive management of chronic diseases, and behavioral health services to insured, uninsured, low-income, and Medicare/Medicaid-enrolled residents of Montgomery County. The Mobile Med team recently visited Franklin Apartments and asked residents what types of services would be most helpful for their needs. As part of our mission, we conduct outreach to residents, connecting people with a variety of resources from food distributions to healthcare to career counseling.
Tenant’s Bill of Rights
In 2024, Maryland enacted legislation that requires the Office of Tenant and Landlord Affairs to publish a “Tenants’ Bill of Rights.” While the Tenants’ Bill of Rights are not all the rights afforded to tenants, they do include a significant number of rights that tenants have under Maryland law. Effective July 1, 2025, all landlords must attach the latest version of the Maryland Tenants’ Bill of Rights.
Tenants should understand their rights and landlords should understand the requirements they must comply with. MHP’s Apartment Assistance Program is a great resource for info on this important bill. Learn more on the AAP website.

GSSCC Nonprofit of the Year Award
MHP was honored to win the Nonprofit of the Year award at The Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce’s annual awards event! We greatly appreciate the Chamber’s partnership, especially as we work to unveil new affordable properties in Silver Spring like The Residences at Forest Glen and as we support local business districts through placemaking efforts including Lyttonsville, Bonifant and Long Branch. Congrats to all the winners! Check out a video of the event here.
