Unity Place, MHP’s Affordable Housing Community in Southeast D.C., Hosts BBQ Open House to Celebrate Renovations

Free and open to the public!

Date: June 28, 2025

Time: 10.00 a.m.– 3:00 p.m.

Location: 4419 3rd street SE Washington, DC 20032

Silver Spring, MD (June 24, 2025) – Nonprofit developer MHP invites the public to Unity Place Apartments in Southeast Washington, D.C. for a BBQ open house event celebrating recent renovations at the property. The event will bring together current and prospective residents from a mosaic of cultures and backgrounds to enjoy hot dogs and refreshments.

The June 28th event is also designed to showcase available apartments and to build a waiting list for prospective tenants. The property is currently offering a promotion of free rent until August of this year and is accepting new applications. Property management staff will be onsite to answer questions about amenities at Unity Place.

With a prime location just minutes from South Capitol Street, Unity Place is located in the Congress Heights neighborhood of Southeast D.C. and has easy access to downtown D.C. and public transportation. One of the best values in Southeast D.C., Unity Place is surrounded by well-maintained grounds and just minutes from shopping, dining and services.

Unity Place, formerly Worthington Woods, is MHP’s largest property to date with 394 affordable apartments. Since September 2023, MHP has been implementing a comprehensive renovation of the property with a total investment of $132 million.

MHP purchased Unity Place in 2019 with a plan to preserve long-term affordability and prevent resident displacement. MHP restricts 100% of these apartment homes for residents earning at or below 60% of area median income as part of its commitment to expanding housing access for low- and moderate-income community members.

The nonprofit developer is building a new community center to serve residents of Unity Place and a neighboring affordable housing community. The center will house MHP’s signature Community Life and outreach programs, including preschool and after school programs, summer enrichment programs, food drives, career development classes, and more! With renovations and the construction of the community center well underway, MHP recently launched a spring campaign to raise the funds needed to make these initiatives a reality at Unity Place.
